SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Applicants must complete the College’s Scholarship Application form and submit to the Financial Aid Office by the deadline each year.

  • Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the deadline each year.

  • Recipients will be selected by the donor based on the completed application, essay, goals, honors, activities andany additional criteria.

  • Recipients must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards as determined by the College.

  • Recipients are expected to attend a scholarship recognition event honoring their achievements and
    Western Piedmont Foundation scholarship donors.

 

RECIPIENTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING DONOR CRITERIA

  1. Preference will be given to students who are first generation college students.

  2. Applicants will be required to submit an essay on the History of Burke County mill workers.  The essay should illustrate that applicant understands the history of the mill worker’s life and how the local mill workers built our community. Essay prompt:  Please explain the history of the millworker workforce and how this workforce built the Burke County community.

  3. Recipient will be asked to volunteer as a docent to the History Museum of Burke County for student groups that tour the museum.  There will be tours in April, May, September and October.  The recipient will need to volunteer around 30 minutes four times per academic year (total of 2 hours of volunteer time).

Mission: To provide financial support to a student pursuing an Associate’s Degree at Western Piedmont Community College.
